Controlling Spiders and Ants in Your Home

!±8± Controlling Spiders and Ants in Your Home

Maybe you have seen more spiders this year then ever before. Most areas have noticed an increase in spiders inside of their homes because of the warmer, wetter weather that we have experienced lately.

Most bugs, like ants, beetles and spiders will head indoors when there is wet weather. I guess they don't like getting wet any more than we do!

What, then, can be done to keep the spider population down to a minimum in your home? Remember that one pest entering your home can quickly lead to other pests inside, since all insects are part of a food chain. Any one bug in your house will attack its natural predator and so on and so forth.

Aside from the most obvious, (keep your house free from left over food left laying around, dust and keep the trash thrown out), buying insecticides is usually a waste of your time and money.

Most over the counter spays are not strong enough to kill the bugs, they only work in direct contact with their victim. SO if you spray your porch, the protection won't last much longer than a few hours at best, making protecting your home difficult since insects tend to hide when they see you.

On the other hand, commercial pest control sprays that pest control companies use on residential homes like yours and mine, are residual, meaning that once they are applied, they will remain affective for weeks and weeks. These means your home stays protected when they bugs think that they are safe.

How do these insecticides work to kill spiders and other pests?

Well, most bugs have bodies that absorb what is around them, so if they walk through the treated area, they will carry the poison in their bodies back to their web or nest and then perish there. They may also eat a bug that has been killed by the poison, thus you get a two for one special.

In areas with a lot of spiders, they may even stop to groom themselves in a treated spot and you may actually see the dead body yourself. I know, its gross, but better to find a dead spider body on the porch than to find it alive and well in your bed!

A professional exterminator is invaluable because they can protect your home for you with powerful agents that you don't have access to, plus they can do it in a fraction of the time that it would take you to do it yourself.
